Constructing the Search Criteria

Enter the words you wish to search for in the box above.

If you enter two or more words, pages that contain any of the words will be found. For example, pipe tobacco will find pages that contain the word pipe or the word tobacco. To find pages that contain both words, not necessarily consecutively, specify the search as pipe and tobacco.

If pages are required that contain the specified words consecutively, i.e. as a phrase, then enclose the words in double or single quotes. For example, to find the phrase lower tar cigarettes enter the search criteria as "lower tar cigarettes".

Words that start with particular characters can be specified by use of an asterisk. For example, smok* would find smoke, smoking, smoker etc. This format should be used if the key word may be present in either its singular or plural form or with several different endings.

Searches can be expanded or narrowed as necessary by the use of and, or and not between key words and by enclosing phrases in parentheses to clarify the meaning. For example:

(pipe and tobacco) or cigar not cigarette

... would search for pages containing both pipe and tobacco, as well as pages containing the word cigar but would not include any pages that contain the word cigarette.

Searches are not case sensitive.

If your search criteria returns too many 'hits' add key words to narrow the search. A maximum of 40 'hits' will be returned for any one search.
