The current editors would like to thank the founders and previous editors of Tobacco in Australia: Facts & issues

Founders and previous editors

Tobacco in Australia: facts and issues was originally conceptualised by Dr Paul Magnus, from the National Heart Foundation and one of the founders of Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Australia.

The first edition of Facts and Issues (1989), was compiled by Margaret Winstanley and ASH Director Stephen Woodward. Woodward championed the idea of a clearly explained, reliable and impeccably referenced guide for all those working in tobacco control in Australia and he secured funding for the first edition.

The second edition (1995), by Winstanley, Woodward and Noni Walker rapidly became the standard compendia of tobacco control related information for Australia.

The third, on-line edition edited by Winstanley and Michelle Scollo (2008) greatly expanded the earlier editions and became one of the largest and most comprehensive repositories of information and analysis about tobacco control in the world.

Quit Victoria played an important role in securing funding for the second and subsequent editions, and we would like to thank former Director of Quit Victoria Ms Judith Watt for her considerable work of the second edition. Thank you also to Ms Jane Martin and Ms Kylie Lindorff for their support of the project over many years.
